ANTIGONE
from SOPHOCLES
HARVARD STADIUM | Cambridge, MA | 2018
A large-scale, site-specific performance and civic engagement project, ANTIGONE brought together over 6,000 spectators in Harvard Stadium, a National Historic Landmark modeled after the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens. Drawing from an original translation by students in the Harvard Classics Department, ANTIGONE featured an innovative scenic design of massive inflatable canvas sculptures, some reaching 40ft in height, designed by renowned visual artist Claire Ashley of the Art Institute of Chicago. This new musical adaptation combined an original choral and orchestral score by Mateo Lincoln with contributions from a local disco band and Latin band. A revival of ancient Greek festival traditions, ANTIGONE was a community celebration free and open to all.
