SEX

from MAE WEST

PROVINCETOWN TENNESSEE WILLIAMS  FESTIVAL | The Boatslip, Provincetown, MA | 2021

A raucous and ridiculous reimagining of Mae West's infamous first play, SEX was developed for the pool deck of The Boatslip, Provincetown's iconic queer resort destination overlooking Cape Cod Bay. When the play first premiered in 1926 it was shut down for obscenity and landed Mae West in prison for ten days before she was let out on "good behavior." A gender-fluid, slap-stick, vaudevillian romp filled with rapid-fire character and costume changes, inflatable flamingoes and a 9-foot teddy bear, SEX at the Boatslip is a titillating celebration of camp, queerness, and chaos.
